Fortwilliam and Skye - August 2015

Mountains, sea and Skye.

Couldn’t have asked for more on my most recent trip to the West Coast and Skye. We firstly made our way from Aberdeen following the Speyside Whiskey Trail through the Cairngorms to Fortwilliam were we spent a foggy two days under Ben Nevis. Sadly too little visibility and too many drams in the tent the night before for us to venture up however we did manage the gondola up the Nevis Range.

It wasn’t great visibility so the usual panoramic views were obscured by the clouds however we did see some people tackling the world class downhill bike trails.

From Fortwilliam we followed the signs for Skye expecting to reach the bridge - to our surprise we ended up in Mallaig were we hitched a ride on the ferry ‘over the sea to Skye’. We were treated to some amazing weather and the views were incredible.

Once we landed on the island we headed straight to Portree to camp for a couple more nights.

From Portree we ventured around the island taking the route North to Uig then back to down. We got some amazing scenery, may or may not have seen a 165 million year old dinosaur footprint at Staffin and had lunch in the Single Track Cafe (You may recognise from Grand Designs).

Finally on our last night we were treated to a light show of epic proportions…
