2014 Year in Review

2014 has been a an awesome year and has allowed me to explore new avenues of photography and delve deeper into the the stuff I’m more accustomed to doing. Nightlife / Events photography is at the core of what I have been working on and all of my work has been through contacts I have met whilst shooting events - for which I am of course grateful.

I have decided to look back at 2014 as I know that I don’t post enough photos as I go - so hopefully you will see something here you haven’t seen before or see something you have seen before in a new light.
Since it was the year of the selfie we might as well kick it off with this. Taken at the very start of last year at the Scottish Freestyle Championships at Cairngorm Mountain in Aviemore. It was insanely high winds / blizzard conditions so only half the course could run and everyone just made the most of it and it turned out to be a rad day. I was filming but due to the weather I had some time to take some quick photos and this was one of them.

At the start of the year I started to promote myself more through my nightlife and events photography and on social media and through that I started to get some more varied work one of the jobs was shooting food and some venue / promotional shots for the new Cafe Boheme website being constructed by Lean Green Webdesign. It is a lovely venue and can’t wait to go in and sample some of the fine dining.

Big thank you to Red Dawn Studios for helping me out with a backdrop for this!

I had the pleasure of documenting the Big Beach Ball simultaneously shooting photos for the event and a little promotional video for my good friend at Redbull - It was really cool having access to so many stages with great acts playing. It was an exhausting but gratifying experience as I had worked the BBB for about 9 hours then packed up my gear and went straight to shoot another 4 hours of my usual club work.

I had the chance to travel around Scotland a lot during my my time away from work. I relish any opportunity to be in the outdoors and with numerous trips surfing on the East and North Coasts as well as days in the Cairngorm mountains.

The wildlife shots wouldn’t have been possible without the help of Wully D cheers again min!

Loved shooting with my 35mm film camera whilst I was away and many of my favorite shots of the year were captured on it.

At the end of summer I was able to travel Further a field and drive through some of eastern Europe from Poland to Croatia with my girlfriend Joanna and her family - Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia to Croatia.

All of the photos below were taken in Croatia on various parts of the coast surrounding Split. I always like to capture a bit of humor where possible, old cars and of course cats (things I think are funny anyway).

Poland

I’ve had the pleasure of working with the Aberdeen Art Gallery & Museums documenting some of their events and as well as being a perfect venue from a photography perspective (except the no flash rule… grrrr) the images have another dimension. The art is that other dimension - I think it adds an extra layer of ambiguity.

I the first image here is definitely a favorite.

The images were taken at Aberdeen Art Gallery’s ‘Below Another Sky’ Exhibition and the artwork shown is as follows;

Rohini Devasher - ‘Always take the weather with you’
Jim Lambie - ‘Sun Visor’
Janice Kerbel - ‘Blast’

On a slight offshoot from nightlife I’ve been involved with some bars for basically doing promo shots mainly Orchid, 99 Bar and College/Babylon. Amazing cocktails and snacks!

Highlight was shooting a staff day out for Brewdog in mid summer - I GOT TO SHOOT A SHOTGUN!

And finally I’m just going to post this one nightlife shot from Nina Kraviz at the Forum.

I think that’s some of my favorites of the year hope you enjoyed reading / viewing!

All the best in the new year everybody.
