Bennachie - April 2015

As spring has officially sprung (apart from the brief blizzard yesterday) it seemed rude to not get into the hills for a ramble - starting off easy with Mither Tap (518 m,  1699 feet).

“The air is part of the mountain, which does not come to an end with its rock and soil. It has its own air; and it is to the quality of its air that is due the endless diversity of its colourings. Brown for the most part in themselves, as soon as we see them clothed in air the hills become blue. Every shade of blue, from opalescent milky-white to indigo, is there.”

Nan Shepherd - ‘The Living Mountain’ - Chapter Six : Air and Light.

I was focusing on textures and how people effect/impact the outdoors  - inspired by just having finished reading Nan Shepherd - The Living Mountain.

Great to be out in the hills again - cant wait for a trip to the west coast next week.

Scottish Freestyle Championships 2015

With the recent milder weather it looks a like that is the 14/15 winter season is coming to an end. So I thought this would be a good time to post some of my favorites from the Snowsport Scotland Scottish Freestyle Championships.

It was an epic day - perfect weather, great atmosphere and a great show put on by the competitors.

(I was pretty jealous that I was working and didn’t get to ride the park!)

I was taking photos for the day and working alongside Joe hart - who was doing video - which was a pleasure as always. Going into shooting this event I had some ideas for what I wanted to do, I wanted a sequence shot and I wanted to get some more unusual angles using a much longer zoom than usual.

I love the photos through the fence and I think it works well to frame the action and gives the image a uniquely Scottish element.

This is probably my favorite photo I took from the day.

Congratulations to everyone that took part, competed and helped to organised the Champs this year it was amazing.

A special congratulations to -

Female Snowboard - Claire Frost
Male Snowboard - Fin Bremner
Female Ski - Eve Mackenzie
Male Ski - Chris McCormick

The new Scottish Freestyle Champs.

Can’t wait for next season and hopefully I’ll get some more days in the mountains working, riding and adventuring.

Thurso Trip - March 2015

So gutted to have missed the Scottish Surfing Federation’s 2015 Scottish Championships up north over the weekend. Seeing all the of photos from the event on Instagram is making me wish I had made the effort to get up there and take some snaps.

But thankfully I got my cold water fix at the end of last month - Took a trip in Andys camper van up the coast and surfed / took snaps around Thurso and on the North coast in some really nice conditions.

As well as some amazing scenery there was a lot great stuff to be seen in the water

and in the air…

If you recognise any of the surfers let me know via my contact page.

It was an awesome little trip and hopefully next year I’ll make it up for the surf Champs.
